Shooting for the STARs: ADComms celebrates fresh award success

Date: June 2015

ADComms’ recent work with Network Rail’s key project BASRE (Bristol Area Signalling Renewals and Enhancements) has seen the company take home a prestigious Network Rail STAR Lite award. It makes the team the first operating in the west of England to pick up this prestigious accolade.

As part of the wider Western Mainline Signalling Renewals programme, ADComms was tasked with overseeing the migration of the current Core Node at Bristol Panel Signal Box (PSB) to an all-new Core Node located at Rhubarb Loop, Bristol.*

ADComms’ initial remit was to provide a full-scale telecoms equipment renewal for the project. However, such was Network Rail’s level of satisfaction with ADComms’ work, the scope of the project dramatically increased to incorporate the civils work.

In total, ADComms was responsible for a significant proportion of the configuration works on site, which included an initial survey; groundwork; civils work for the relocateable equipment build (REB) base; the build and enabling of the REB; delivery and positioning of the REB on the base; stand-alone commissioning and configuration to Network Rail Telecoms’ (NRT) specific transmission design. The project builds on the Scunthorpe-based company’s expertise in rail telecommunications and marks a significant step for the company into the civil works arena.

Matt Ellis, construction manager at Network Rail, commented:

“It’s a real pleasure to see that the ADComms team at Rhubarb Loop has achieved the STAR Lite award. It’s been attained through their diligence to processes; their genuine concern for their team’s welfare and exceptional workmanship. They have shown a dedication to getting the job completed in a safe, timely and thorough fashion, and have been exemplary in all aspects, going above and beyond what was expected.”

Jason Pearce, managing director at ADComms, added:

“ADComms has broken new ground in becoming the first team working in the west of England area to win a STAR Lite award. The achievement is recognition of the hard work of the entire team and we’re delighted they’ve been recognised.”

*Named after the city’s nearby Rhubarb Tavern, Rhubarb Loop is part of Bristol’s rail circuit
