Going Underground

Date: November 2014

ADComms (ADC) acquires underground specialist IPS

Installation Project Services Limited (IPS), a provider of end-to-end underground communications services has been acquired by ADComms. The agreement will see the organisation take its total solution capability to the rail, underground and other transport arenas, across the UK and further afield.

IPS, with a turnover of approximately £12 million per annum, has almost 200 employees and specialises in the design, installation, test and commissioning of complete projects for clients including London Underground. The deal, for an undisclosed sum, sees the ADComms organisation now take up a position of clear market leadership across the rail and underground worlds for the provision of communications services.

Steve Harris, chairman of Surrey-based IPS, noted:

“We’re delighted to be part of ADC. We’ve watched from afar the growth that the Scunthorpe team has gained in the rail sector over the last two or three years and we’re thrilled to be joining such a highly-respected organisation. Indeed, our standing in the south east and across the underground sector is a perfect complement to the existing skill set of ADC.”

Jason Pearce, managing director of ADC, commented:

“As London cements its positon as a true global city, it was our ambition as a management team to be part of that exciting vision, by playing a role in the further improvement of its infrastructure. Through the acquisition of IPS, we are able to make that a reality.”

He concluded:

“These are exciting times for ADC. With IDC, we are now also able to offer operational capability in terms of platform and station design in terms of communications equipment, particularly from a safety perspective, along with a southern presence that will also help our rail business. We’ve got a long way to go but the business is ideally poised to offer its capabilities and service-led ethos and innovation to a growing client portfolio.”
